Rangers 0-2 Manchester United: Diallo and Hugill secure Red Devils´ first pre-season win

Manchester United claimed their first victory of pre-season with a 2-0 win over Rangers at Murrayfield.

Amad Diallo and Joe Hugill were on target for Erik ten Hag s side, who bounced back from their 1-0 defeat by Rosenborg last time out.

The Red Devils, whose starting XI included new signing Leny Yoro and the returning Jadon Sancho, went close with young striker Ethan Wheatley calling Jack Butland into action, while Diallo was narrowly off target from a free-kick.

The latter broke the deadlock four minutes before half-time, cutting inside from the right wing before flashing a shot into Butland s bottom-right corner.

Sancho shot over from close range before United doubled their lead 19 minutes from time. Maxi Oyedele provided a neat throughball for fellow …

Juventus inquire about Sancho

Juventus have made contact with Manchester United over the possibility of signing Jadon Sancho, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Sancho has not been a part of the United squad since early this season, with manager Erik ten Hag cracking down on his perceived lack of discipline. The Dutch coach publicly criticized Sancho s efforts in training, to which the winger responded with a scathing social media post which he quickly deleted. Sancho has reportedly been urged by some of his teammates to apologize to the manager, but Ten Hag insists there have been no developments on that front.

Both United and Sancho are obviously looking for a suitable solution, and it seems the problem can only be resolved with a parting of ways. As things stand, United haven t entered into negotiatio…

Bundesliga title alone ´not enough for Bayern´, says Nagelsmann

Julian Nagelsmann knows this season cannot be considered a success for Bayern Munich after falling short of their minimum goal of making the Champions League semi-finals.

Bayern are on course for a 10th consecutive Bundesliga title, nine points clear of nearest challengers Borussia Dortmund with five games to play.

But as last season, Bayern have failed to win the DFB-Pokal and been eliminated from the Champions League at the quarter-final stage.

After being edged out by big-spending Paris Saint-Germain in 2020-21, underdogs Villarreal put paid to their European hopes this time, claiming a 1-1 draw in Germany on Tuesday to claim a 2-1 aggregate success.

Samuel Chukwueze s late equaliser saw Bayern eliminated in the last eight for the eighth time in the Ch…

Mane backs Benzema for Ballon d´Or success

Sadio Mane has backed Karim Benzema to win this year s Ballon d Or, stating Real Madrid s talisman easily deserves football s greatest individual accolade.

Benzema had an outstanding 2021-22 season, helping Madrid win LaLiga and the Champions League, with Los Blancos defeating Mane s Liverpool in the final.

Since the start of last season, Benzema has scored 48 goals and provided 16 assists in all competitions for Madrid. In the same time, only Kylian Mbappe and Robert Lewandowski (both 50) have netted more times.

The France striker also overtook Raul as Madrid s second-highest goalscorer, behind only Cristiano Ronaldo.

Now at Bayern Munich after leaving Liverpool, Mane has also been shortlisted for the Ballon d Or.

He played a key role in Senegal …

Teenager Kaide Gordon scored his first goal for Liverpool and Fabinho grabbed a double as they came from behind to beat Shrewsbury Town 4-1 in the third round of the FA Cup.

A huge contingent of travelling Shrews fans were dreaming of a massive upset after Daniel Udoh put the League One side ahead at Anfield on Sunday.

But Liverpool clicked into gear in the first half, Gordon becoming the second-youngest goalscorer in the Premier League giants history at the age of 17 and 96 days and Fabinho on target from the penalty spot.

Jurgen Klopp, back on the touchline after an absence following his COVID-19 test, went with a mix of youth and experience to see Reds into the fourth round, Roberto Firmino adding a third with a clever backheel and Fabinho putting th…

Ndombele, Lo Celso, Rabiot, Longstaff? – Man Utd´s possible Pogba replacements

Paul Pogba finally confirmed his desire to leave Manchester United for a new challenge on Sunday, a revelation that will likely split the club s supporters.

While few would doubt Pogba s ability, the last three seasons since his return from Juventus have been anything but smooth.

Pogba has struggled for consistency in a United team that has so often been crying out for his creativity, while the soap opera around his turbulent relationship with Jose Mourinho before the Portuguese manager s December sacking became a distracting sideshow.

Although Pogba s form did initially improve after Mourinho left, the dominant performances soon dried up again – a haul of 13 goals (seven from the spot) and nine assists in the Premier League exaggerating his influence.

´This is a young project´ – Laporta philosophical after Barcelona´s premature Champions League exit

Barcelona president Joan Laporta concedes his side s premature Champions League exit is a shame but was philosophical about their young project under Xavi.

The Blaugrana were officially eliminated and consigned to the Europa League following Inter s 4-0 win over Viktoria Plzen earlier on Wednesday, before producing a limp home display in a 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich.

Barcelona have been condemned to a group-stage exit for the second straight season, while that comes almost 12 months since Xavi s appointment to replace Ronald Koeman.

The five-time Champions League winners spent significantly in Xavi s first off-season at the helm, bringing in Robert Lewandowski, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Hector Bellerin, Franck Kessie, Marcos Alonso and Raphinha.

Pogba ´not satisfied´ with his time at Man Utd after another ´dead´ season

Paul Pogba is not satisfied with how Manchester United have performed over the past five seasons and says he does not feel as though he has a role at Old Trafford.

France international Pogba returned to United in 2016 for a then-record transfer fee of £89million (€105m) following four trophy-laden campaigns with Juventus.

Pogba has had far less success on the trophy front at United, having won only the EFL Cup and Europa League – both of those coming under Jose Mourinho in 2016-17.

The 29-year-old is out of contract at the end of the campaign and is widely expected to depart on a free transfer, with Juve and Barcelona among the clubs reportedly interested.

With United out of each cup competition this term and battling for a fourth-placed finish in th…

Leipzig only built to earn Red Bull money – Watzke

Surprise Bundesliga leaders RB Leipzig only exist to increase profits for Red Bull, Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke has said.

A 2-1 win over Schalke last week prolonged Leipzig s unbeaten start to their first season in the Bundesliga and gave them a three-point advantage at the top of the table over Bayern Munich.

The club were only formed in 2009 as a successor entity to SSV Markranstadt but have soared through the levels of German football thanks to significant financial backing from Red Bull.

That level of investment, combined with a lack of control from fan members compared to other Bundesliga sides and the prevalence of the drinks giants branding throughout the club, has caused resentment within much of German football.

Although Watzke admi…

Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace: Abraham reaches 10 Premier League goals as Lampard´s men go second

Tammy Abraham scored his 10th Premier League goal for Chelsea as they secured a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

The 22-year-old striker became the youngest Blues player to reach double figures in the Premier League since Arjen Robben when he swept home following a clever Willian pass.

Chelsea had found clear-cut chances hard to come by against a stubborn Palace side, whose manager Roy Hodgson was taking charge of his 300th game in England s top flight.

Abraham s cool finish broke the deadlock, though, before a simple header from Christian Pulisic made certain of a sixth league win in a row for Frank Lampard s side.
